Decorating Like a Queen but spending like a Pauper.

Decorating a space makes me very happy. I love to decorate and I truly believe that your home should be your zen place.  Whether its decorating a room, the home for the holidays, hosting a party or even decorating a cake. I enjoy pretty things and I enjoy creating pretty spaces.

Although I enjoy a beautiful space. I am not a millionaire… yet.  so I enjoy being creative on a budget, I also love that my home feels like a very peaceful place. I  feel settled and my apartment feels like a home.

So I just wanted to share various projects that I have done around our place that are wallet friendly!

Plants or flowers

Flowers from My Love always brighten up our home!

Plants are such a great way to brighten up any area, I decorated flower pots for less than  5.00 and now I have lovely plants to bring color to our home.

So if I have any advice for decorating like a queen on a pauper budget they would be.

  • Stick to solid or fairly neutral colors for furniture. That way when you are in the need for a change in your home, you can switch pillow or throws for very little cash.
  • Don’t be afraid to thrift store or the dollar store. Some of my best finds have been at places you wouldn’t expect.

Dollar tree and thrift store combo!
  • Paint and spray paint are game changers! This shelf was once a boring old gray thing, now its GOLD!

  • For those with limited storage space, furniture with storage will be your best friend!

Aviry picked this storage Ottoman from Bargains and buyouts $20 Bucks! I love it!

  • Ask for the input of your family, I think one reason why people enjoy our space is that we decorate as a family. ( I still have the final say) Because if I let the boys decide everything we would have 6 tv’s in our living room. In all seriousness, they gravitate towards items I typically wouldn’t. Yet they always look great in our home and our house is a fusion of all of our ideas.

It was Carlos’s idea to mix and match the bar stools! Love it!

What are some of your decorating tips and tricks? I’m no interior designer but I love feeling at peace in my space and I love looking at pretty things. I can’t wait to look back one day at this post years from now and be so happy to see, that at this place in my life I am happy with our place and I have created a home out of a small space.  : )

A 90’s Summer for an iGeneration kid.

Aviry is in need of an old school summer. By old school I really mean a 90’s kid summer (Because I am not that old!) that’s how I grew up and I want Aviry to be able to experience some carefree old school fun.  In honor of preparing for an old-school summer I am creating a list of some of the fun things we used to do as kids when it was summer vacation and I want my son to be able to experience that as well!

We live in the city in an apartment where there really is not a lot of play space. : ( I grew up with a backyard. And I know that within the next year we will have a home with a backyard for Aviry. He uses the apartment as a play space but I don’t want to stifle his creativity just because I’m not a home owner yet. Aviry prefers the indoors and I want him to see what exciting things can happen outdoors!

I have compiled a list of ways Aviry can have a 90s kid summer! Who needs YouTube when you can play outside all day?

  • Super soakers, water guns, water balloons, and sprinklers no summer is complete without any of those items and we all know why!
  • Hide and go seek in the dark as a parent this game actually terrifies me but as a kid it was the most fun!
  • Riding your bike everywhere you can.
  • I think there should be at least one night he’s able to stay out when the streetlights are on. (With adult supervision of course) #helicoptermom
  • Road trips.
  • So this may not appeal to all the boys out there but I think jumping rope should be a major part of every childs summer. I WAS A BEAST AT DOUBLE DUTCH.
  • Sleepovers!
  • Limited Technology!
  • Parks and playgrounds.
  • I think playing sports is an awesome way to really have a 90s kid summer. It doesn’t have to be on the team but I think there’s nothing like a good old fashion basketball game or a good old fashion baseball game to just keep your child in shape and to learn healthy competition.
  •  Popsicles! Ice cream trucks! Every time an ice cream truck comes by we are there! OK. well maybe not every time but we will be regular customers of the ice cream truck.
  • Maybe it’s the Chicago in me but my summer was definitely spent eating sunflower seeds and pickles so I will probably pass that traditional to him as well.
  • Learn how to fix a popped bike chain.
  • I want him to have a friend over for a few days or him go over a friends house for a few days for so long that they actually  know what it feels like to get tired of someone. But still love them enough to where you’re still best friends.
  • Saturday morning cartoons! Staying up late with me watching movies that I used to like when I was a kid Saturday morning. Although I am not sure if he is going to love the Baby Sitters Club!
  • I want him to find a book that he actually loves and I want him to just spend a day in the house reading because he wants to.  Thank the Lord for DogMan.
  • Rollerblading.
  • Making our own popsicles.
  • Lemonade Stand.
  • Hikes.
  • Old school ice cream parlors.

What are your best memories of Summer Vacation? What fun activity do you think our iKids would love!

I would love to hear and pass them along to my kiddo!

Make it a great one!

Our Vacation and the Importance of Chilling Out.

Its been a minute!!

I was on vacation and it was amazing. Carlos leaves for work in a little bit and we wanted to make sure we got some quality time  together before he leaves. I completely unplugged. I checked my email every 2 days, I barely called or texted anyone. It was great. So I have been MIA.

I didn’t have to cook dinner, or walk dogs, I was completely free and it felt great! Wanna know what else is funny? I missed it! There truly is no place like home and I love taking care of my boys. I couldn’t wait to get home and cook dinner while Aviry does his homework in the kitchen. I couldn’t wait to play with the dogs!  I couldn’t wait to do laundry! ( Thats a lie). But seriously thats one of the beauties of vacation. The chance to rejuvenate your mind and body, and put things into perspective. Carlos and I were also able to really connect and just focus on one another.  It truly was a great time.

It wanted to share why this vacation was so amazing and why it was so positive for our relationship.

Vegas

Carlos grew up in Vegas so we were able to spend time with his entire family. They are so welcoming and wonderful. It truly is a blessing to be able to see how much he is loved and to see how much he loves his family.

IMG_0442
Out and about exploring Las Vegas!

California

California was absolutely breath taking! Carlos rented a car and (bless his heart) drove all the way from Vegas to California! It was such a beautiful and relaxing drive. We arrive at this beautiful beach house!!!!

The ocean was literally at the back door it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! We ate good food, met amazing people, and had a great time.

IMG_0624

I have to take some time and really spend a moment on Carlos and how much he thinks about me how much he truly knows me. Vacations can either make or break relationships I think this vacation definitely helped solidify ours.

I really do appreciate how much Carlos takes time to take us on an adventure. He loves to go places we have never been and do things we have never done. I love that about him. If it means he’s going to be up all night on the internet coming up with all the things we should do he will do that. If it means we are hopping in three different Uber’s just to try and find the best place to get chicken at 2 o’clock in the morning that is what we will do! If it means driving an hour to get the worlds largest crab legs then that’s what we’ll do! I love how much fun I have with him.  Carlos will make friends with anyone he meets. I love how he doesn’t hold back his ability to make connections. His personality always enhances our vacations. Because of his personality we were able to get discounts on rental cars, hotel room upgrades and we even had a few drinks on the house at a few places we went.

Love can be scary. Especially today. I feel very fortunate and very blessed that I have a partner who knows me so well and truly cares about me I don’t know what the future holds but I do know that my future has Carlos in it.

Without this amazing vacation who knows when Carlos and I would have had some time to unwind. It’s unfortunate because millennial’s get such a bad rap for the quality of  our relationships. We spend so much time grinding we can forget to work on our relationships or even ourselves.   Our vacation really pointed out the fact that I / we don’t ever really slow down even when we think were slowing down were really not.

Millennial’s don’t have it the same as previous generations.

I urge all of my millennial parents and non-parents to really  take some time to slow down! It’s the same rat race and if it means that I can feel a little bit more strongly about love and the man who I know is my soulmate then it means I need to slow down. If it means that I hear Aviry’s laugh a little more clearly than I will slow down.

I honestly don’t know how long it would’ve been for Carlos and I to have moments together with us to just be still and not have to worry about the various day to day stuff.. I am so thankful for this trip because it showed us the importance of taking time to slow down each and every day.  I feel guilty when I am not doing something. I believe its an after effect of having Aviry young and not ever wanting to be a “bad mom”. I call bull. Aviry needs me to slow down! Its better for everyone that way.

I do know that I am now officially making it a priority to slow down and not feel guilty about it. If it means to take a 10 minute break or if it means to shut down for a day. I will make it a priority to slow down.

So if you catch me out and about running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Please guide me to a chair, hand me a cup of tea and play me sounds of the ocean.

The Skin I’m In. Challenges and Triumps. Skincare Talk.

Well hello my baby mams’s, mamas and friends!!

Today I want to talk about my face.

I have grown up acne, it sucks. About once a month I will get a hideous pimple that seems to leave a mark even if I don’t attempt to annihalate it with an extraction tool. (Which I sometimes do) : (

Hyper-pigmentation is such an a huge problem for me! I have always enjoyed having relatively clear skin, but the last few months have proven challenging. Adult acne is real y’all and its a mutha#$&!

I have been doing some research into adult acne and hyper-pigmentation and here is what I am doing to battle it. I will include some before and after photos and will also be posting progress pictures to my instagram!

Hyper-pigmentation is  is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin.

I hate it! Especially because I have gone my entire life with fairly clear skin. So I have NO PATIENCE FOR PIMPLES!

I have begun compiling what works for me and what can help for anyone who wants to achieve clear skin!

So lets raise our glasses to clear skin…

Maracuja Oil

I have begun my research into this pesky skin problem and my mom actually led me to try Maracuja Oil.  Which you can find on amazon here.  Maracuja is a word that comes from the Amazon region of the world and refers to the passion fruit as it’s typically extracted from either the seeds of the fruit or from passion flowers, an exotic, beautiful flower that offers a host of health benefits.

Natural living.com tells us many benefits of maracuja oil that include it being an

Anti-inflammatory: It helps to reduce inflammation, something that’s considered to be the root of many illnesses and disease.

Emollient: An emollient is considered to be an outstanding moisturizer for the skin.

Antioxidant: Its compounds have the ability to scavenge free radicals which help to prevent the tissues from damage.

Anti-insomnia: It helps to induce more restful sleep.

Anti-itch: It can relieving skin itching.

Anti-stress: It’s been found to have a powerful stress-relieving effect.

Anti-tussive: It’s an effective cough suppressant.

Anti-asthmatic: It can reduce the symptoms of asthma and bronchial spasms.

Anxiolytic: It can help relieve the symptoms of anxiety.

While researching maracura oil I was so surprised to read of the oils  many benefits. I began using maracuja oil after my mom told me how soft her skin felt and how she noticed a decrease in her fine lines and wrinkles.

I have been using Maracuja oil nightly on my skin for about 3 weeks and have noticed some fading of acne scars. Although I may cut down to 3-4 nights a week because my out breaks have remained the same.

Below are some progress photos.

IMG_4148
Week 1 and Week 2

Here is a photo taken today about 3 weeks later. ( Today)IMG_0198I would definitely say the maracuja oil is fading the hyper-pigmentation on my face. Which is great! The one downside for me, although it does not hurt my adult acne, it doesn’t help it either. I wish I saw an improvement in that area.

Vitamin C Serum.

Which I just started using. I haven’t really noticed a difference, I have began applying the Vitamin C oil under my make up. It has only been a week but I will keep you all posted!!

Gentle Exfoliation.

Exfoliating is important because it helps to get rid of dead skin cells and helps promote the growth of new skin cells. Although exfoliating is not needed daily! Too much exfoliation can lead to more breakouts.

Facials and Masks.

I always love a good at home facial. I am obsessed with the Clay Masks by Loreal. They work extremely well and are not too expensive.

IMG_5703
This is a photo from when I first used the mask about a year ago.

Look at it go to town cleaning my pores!! I use a face mask about once or twice a week. I alternate between a variety of mask. But I try to do a clay mask and then a moisturizing mask about 2 days later. I often get comments on how young I look for my age. Which is always so flattering, but I would love to stay pimple free!

I have seen results and next hope to be able to get the pesky outbreaks under control.

Cheers to clear skin and drinking more water!

Update!

Hey everybody!

so I am working on my next blog post I just wanted to share with you all a quick update on what is going on with my skin!

I was on an amazing vacation with my boyfriend and he pretty much taking a break from all technology except for my camera so I have some awesome pictures to share as well as my love my new found love for the ocean

While away on vacation I felt my skin didn’t look really good I have been trying to cover up the Dark spots on my face and although in pictures you can’t tail up close I just didn’t really feel As confident as I said as I should have.

I still was pretty diligent with my skin care routine while on vacation I made sure to use plenty of sunscreen Because I was in Vegas and California where the sun is a lot more intense than where i reside in Ohio.

I kept up my skin care routine.

When I arrived home from Vacation I did a mild face peel which you can find here. I love it! I don’t do very often maybe once a month.

This is where my skin is today.

I feel I am seeing a vast improvement!

I’ll keep you all updated!
