Brandi is just a powerhouse and I am in awe at how she juggles it all! Brandi is the mommy to the handsome and smart Chase who will be starting Kindergarten this year!  Not only has Brandi served in the Military, she also has been a force to reckon with in corporate America, with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, Brandi not only kicks butt as an amazing mom, she also kicks butt as an entrepreneur who runs two businesses!  Brandi we salute you on so many different levels!

Oh yeah! Did I mention she also hosts women’s empowerment workshops as well!  I had the pleasure of being a vendor and guest at one of her workshops titled The #Selflove Series. The #Selflove Series was such a great event and  really empowered everyone in attendande. We discussed beauty, finances, health and so much more! I was so happy to attend as a vendor and came home feeling rejuvenated and was able to think about things in my life with a fresh perspective.

Brandi runs Creatively B Marie and Yours Truly Event Planning.  Here is a little blurb from her websites with more information!

These are links click them!! : )

Creatively BMarie was born after an influx of custom requests from clients with the Designer, Brandi Rogers, through her event planning company. At Creatively BMarie, we believe in quality, compassion, and care for each client, as we understand how it impacts every their brand and vision. I know first hand how awesome of an event planner Brandi is. Brandi helped so much with our launch party for Pretty as Porcelain, she was so great to work with! If it meant she had to make prize bags, decorate the space, or just keep me from freaking out she did it! She kept us on task and organized and we all had a great time.

I love throwing and hosting events and she managed to take on all of the parts of planning events that I don’t enjoy. Organizing, scheduling, cleaning, calling venues and budgeting. ( I just like to make things LOOK pretty. )

Brandi keep up the amazing work and I can not wait to see all that you do!

Mommy of the Moment!

When I created this blog, I wanted to showcase just how awesome mom’s are. Whether a single mom, married mom, a young mom, or an old mom we are required to literally kick ass every single day.   Each week I will pick a mom ( Or you will suggest a mom) for me to share with my readers just how amazing she is and just to give credit where credit is due!!

The mother I am writing about this week is my bestie, and sister from another mister the lovely and talented….

Morgan Brown!

20180617_104158

Morgan is the mother to Michal 5, and Donovan 9. Morgan is the true definition of resilience and determination.  After separating from her husband and beginning life on her own, she began her career in corporate America, but for many single moms corporate America isn’t ever really a good fit, due to schedule demands and generally most places of employment not really giving a damn if your kids have dinner and a kiss goodnight before bedtime.

Realizing that she wanted more for herself and her children  she decided to open her own Childcare facility! Guess what?? In just 8 short months from leaving her job the doors to Cozy Home Cares are open!

Cozyhomecares.com ( Click it, its a link, share it!)

I have personally witnessed her plan every aspect of her daycare from start to finish. The children have daily lesson plans, created by herself and her super genius teacher cousin Fred Jenkins.  The children are always engaged and are even learning sign language, yoga and gardening!!

Cozy Home Cares is located in the middle of the Avondale in Cincinnati,Ohio and is truly giving back to the community. She works with parents and truly wants her home to be a second home for their little ones.  It can be hard to trust daycares with some of the horrors you hear on the news. Cozy Home Cares has cameras that the parents are able to access at anytime and she even offers weekend services for parents who just need a break! So if you are someone you know is in need of childcare do not hesitate to call Morgan!!

Way to go Morgan for being an amazing mother, a boss babe, and an all around great friend. Keep kicking ass and taking names just how you have been! Here’s to Cozy Home Cares becoming everything you have ever wanted!!

Mommy Guilt and Not Spoiling the Child. Help!

“But what will you do??”   “Don’t hold the baby too much! You’re going to spoil him!” “Don’t just let him cry! You will stress him!” “Oh you work? Well who watches the baby?” “Oh that has got to be so hard to be away from him!”

Those kind of questions and statements can really mess with your head, because it begins to turn into Mommy Guilt. Which I had really badly when Aviry was a baby.

I will admit I often care too much about what people think of me. (I’m still growing y’all) What I end up doing at times is I OVER COMPENSATE for everything. I buy toys for Aviry because I feel guilty about not having my life in perfect order before he was born. I allow wiggle room that otherwise wouldn’t be given to him because I felt bad I had to work AND do homework. Little things start to slide. “Go ahead Aviry watch one more Episode. Have another cookie. Sure only 10 more minutes.”

We are entering a phase of  Aviry not completely understanding that everything we provide for him has LITERALLY been through hard work, sweat and at times many, many tears. At 9 I don’t expect him to understand this but I struggle with this situation.  How do you keep your child balanced in today’s world?  I want Aviry to understand hard work and appreciate what he has,  yet as a child I remember what struggling financially felt like and IT SUCKED. I don’t want Aviry to feel that. I learned very early on the importance of hard work and it has helped me tremendously in adult hood. Aviry is such a smart and amazing kid, I don’t want him to misunderstand the importance of hard work, or hinder him because of what he has or doesn’t have.

Parenting is just this constant journey where each day, week or minute can change. One day I feel like Super mom and the next I’m confused as ever. I’m not worried I know that Aviry will be just fine but any pointer or tips are always appreciated!

How do you teach hard work and instill passion into your children? What tips do you have for me as a mom who tends to over compensate?

Home Decor, motherhood

Decorating Like a Queen but spending like a Pauper.

Decorating a space makes me very happy. I love to decorate and I truly believe that your home should be your zen place.  Whether its decorating a room, the home for the holidays, hosting a party or even decorating a cake. I enjoy pretty things and I enjoy creating pretty spaces.

Although I enjoy a beautiful space. I am not a millionaire… yet.  so I enjoy being creative on a budget, I also love that my home feels like a very peaceful place. I  feel settled and my apartment feels like a home.

So I just wanted to share various projects that I have done around our place that are wallet friendly!

Table Decorations

Food Displays

Christmas Cookie Bar and lots of sweets!

Plants or flowers

Flowers from My Love always brighten up our home!

Plants are such a great way to brighten up any area, I decorated flower pots for less than  5.00 and now I have lovely plants to bring color to our home.

So if I have any advice for decorating like a queen on a pauper budget they would be.

  • Stick to solid or fairly neutral colors for furniture. That way when you are in the need for a change in your home, you can switch pillow or throws for very little cash.
  • Don’t be afraid to thrift store or the dollar store. Some of my best finds have been at places you wouldn’t expect.

Dollar tree and thrift store combo!
  • Paint and spray paint are game changers! This shelf was once a boring old gray thing, now its GOLD!

IMG_1964

  • For those with limited storage space, furniture with storage will be your best friend!

Aviry picked this storage Ottoman from Bargains and buyouts $20 Bucks! I love it!

IMG_1967

  • Ask for the input of your family, I think one reason why people enjoy our space is that we decorate as a family. ( I still have the final say) Because if I let the boys decide everything we would have 6 tv’s in our living room. In all seriousness, they gravitate towards items I typically wouldn’t. Yet they always look great in our home and our house is a fusion of all of our ideas.

It was Carlos’s idea to mix and match the bar stools! Love it!

What are some of your decorating tips and tricks? I’m no interior designer but I love feeling at peace in my space and I love looking at pretty things. I can’t wait to look back one day at this post years from now and be so happy to see, that at this place in my life I am happy with our place and I have created a home out of a small space.  : )

A 90’s Summer for an iGeneration kid.

Aviry is in need of an old school summer. By old school I really mean a 90’s kid summer (Because I am not that old!) that’s how I grew up and I want Aviry to be able to experience some carefree old school fun.  In honor of preparing for an old-school summer I am creating a list of some of the fun things we used to do as kids when it was summer vacation and I want my son to be able to experience that as well!

We live in the city in an apartment where there really is not a lot of play space. : ( I grew up with a backyard. And I know that within the next year we will have a home with a backyard for Aviry. He uses the apartment as a play space but I don’t want to stifle his creativity just because I’m not a home owner yet. Aviry prefers the indoors and I want him to see what exciting things can happen outdoors!

I have compiled a list of ways Aviry can have a 90s kid summer! Who needs YouTube when you can play outside all day?

  • Super soakers, water guns, water balloons, and sprinklers no summer is complete without any of those items and we all know why!
  • Hide and go seek in the dark as a parent this game actually terrifies me but as a kid it was the most fun!
  • Riding your bike everywhere you can.
  • I think there should be at least one night he’s able to stay out when the streetlights are on. (With adult supervision of course) #helicoptermom
  • Road trips.
  • So this may not appeal to all the boys out there but I think jumping rope should be a major part of every childs summer. I WAS A BEAST AT DOUBLE DUTCH.
  • Sleepovers!
  • Limited Technology!
  • Parks and playgrounds.
  • I think playing sports is an awesome way to really have a 90s kid summer. It doesn’t have to be on the team but I think there’s nothing like a good old fashion basketball game or a good old fashion baseball game to just keep your child in shape and to learn healthy competition.
  •  Popsicles! Ice cream trucks! Every time an ice cream truck comes by we are there! OK. well maybe not every time but we will be regular customers of the ice cream truck.
  • Maybe it’s the Chicago in me but my summer was definitely spent eating sunflower seeds and pickles so I will probably pass that traditional to him as well.
  • Learn how to fix a popped bike chain.
  • I want him to have a friend over for a few days or him go over a friends house for a few days for so long that they actually  know what it feels like to get tired of someone. But still love them enough to where you’re still best friends.
  • Saturday morning cartoons! Staying up late with me watching movies that I used to like when I was a kid Saturday morning. Although I am not sure if he is going to love the Baby Sitters Club!
  • I want him to find a book that he actually loves and I want him to just spend a day in the house reading because he wants to.  Thank the Lord for DogMan.
  • Rollerblading.
  • Making our own popsicles.
  • Lemonade Stand.
  • Hikes.
  • Old school ice cream parlors.

What are your best memories of Summer Vacation? What fun activity do you think our iKids would love!

I would love to hear and pass them along to my kiddo!

Make it a great one!

Our Vacation and the Importance of Chilling Out.

Its been a minute!!

I was on vacation and it was amazing. Carlos leaves for work in a little bit and we wanted to make sure we got some quality time  together before he leaves. I completely unplugged. I checked my email every 2 days, I barely called or texted anyone. It was great. So I have been MIA.

I didn’t have to cook dinner, or walk dogs, I was completely free and it felt great! Wanna know what else is funny? I missed it! There truly is no place like home and I love taking care of my boys. I couldn’t wait to get home and cook dinner while Aviry does his homework in the kitchen. I couldn’t wait to play with the dogs!  I couldn’t wait to do laundry! ( Thats a lie). But seriously thats one of the beauties of vacation. The chance to rejuvenate your mind and body, and put things into perspective. Carlos and I were also able to really connect and just focus on one another.  It truly was a great time.

It wanted to share why this vacation was so amazing and why it was so positive for our relationship.

Vegas

Carlos grew up in Vegas so we were able to spend time with his entire family. They are so welcoming and wonderful. It truly is a blessing to be able to see how much he is loved and to see how much he loves his family.

IMG_0442
Out and about exploring Las Vegas!

California

California was absolutely breath taking! Carlos rented a car and (bless his heart) drove all the way from Vegas to California! It was such a beautiful and relaxing drive. We arrive at this beautiful beach house!!!!

The ocean was literally at the back door it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! We ate good food, met amazing people, and had a great time.

IMG_0624

I have to take some time and really spend a moment on Carlos and how much he thinks about me how much he truly knows me. Vacations can either make or break relationships I think this vacation definitely helped solidify ours.

I really do appreciate how much Carlos takes time to take us on an adventure. He loves to go places we have never been and do things we have never done. I love that about him. If it means he’s going to be up all night on the internet coming up with all the things we should do he will do that. If it means we are hopping in three different Uber’s just to try and find the best place to get chicken at 2 o’clock in the morning that is what we will do! If it means driving an hour to get the worlds largest crab legs then that’s what we’ll do! I love how much fun I have with him.  Carlos will make friends with anyone he meets. I love how he doesn’t hold back his ability to make connections. His personality always enhances our vacations. Because of his personality we were able to get discounts on rental cars, hotel room upgrades and we even had a few drinks on the house at a few places we went.

Love can be scary. Especially today. I feel very fortunate and very blessed that I have a partner who knows me so well and truly cares about me I don’t know what the future holds but I do know that my future has Carlos in it.

Without this amazing vacation who knows when Carlos and I would have had some time to unwind. It’s unfortunate because millennial’s get such a bad rap for the quality of  our relationships. We spend so much time grinding we can forget to work on our relationships or even ourselves.   Our vacation really pointed out the fact that I / we don’t ever really slow down even when we think were slowing down were really not.

Millennial’s don’t have it the same as previous generations.

I urge all of my millennial parents and non-parents to really  take some time to slow down! It’s the same rat race and if it means that I can feel a little bit more strongly about love and the man who I know is my soulmate then it means I need to slow down. If it means that I hear Aviry’s laugh a little more clearly than I will slow down.

I honestly don’t know how long it would’ve been for Carlos and I to have moments together with us to just be still and not have to worry about the various day to day stuff.. I am so thankful for this trip because it showed us the importance of taking time to slow down each and every day.  I feel guilty when I am not doing something. I believe its an after effect of having Aviry young and not ever wanting to be a “bad mom”. I call bull. Aviry needs me to slow down! Its better for everyone that way.

I do know that I am now officially making it a priority to slow down and not feel guilty about it. If it means to take a 10 minute break or if it means to shut down for a day. I will make it a priority to slow down.

So if you catch me out and about running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Please guide me to a chair, hand me a cup of tea and play me sounds of the ocean.
