Julia is filled with such great energy, she is charismatic and I want her to have her own talk show one day. ( It’s gonna happen!) Julia is a fellow Warrior Mom who is talented in so many different areas. Julia is mother to 5 amazing children who have all inherited her talent in some way shape or form.  Julia had her oldest daughter at a young age and one of the many reasons I wanted to feature Julia in Mommy of the Moment is because her story is so powerful.   Having children at a young age can be extremely daunting for the strongest person.  Well Julia CRUSHED IT. Julia does not fit into any mold that society would have liked to fit her into.  This mommies family consist of students who have been given full ride scholarships to college, entrepreneurs and are some of the nicest and most positive people I have met.  Julia is living proof that moms can and we will persevere through anything, and that we will make it happen!!

Julia is an esthetician by trade who also owns B.YOUnique Soulistic Healing Center. You can visit her website here. Mommy Guilt and Not Spoiling the Child. Help!

“But what will you do??”   “Don’t hold the baby too much! You’re going to spoil him!” “Don’t just let him cry! You will stress him!” “Oh you work? Well who watches the baby?” “Oh that has got to be so hard to be away from him!”

Those kind of questions and statements can really mess with your head, because it begins to turn into Mommy Guilt. Which I had really badly when Aviry was a baby.

I will admit I often care too much about what people think of me. (I’m still growing y’all) What I end up doing at times is I OVER COMPENSATE for everything. I buy toys for Aviry because I feel guilty about not having my life in perfect order before he was born. I allow wiggle room that otherwise wouldn’t be given to him because I felt bad I had to work AND do homework. Little things start to slide. “Go ahead Aviry watch one more Episode. Have another cookie. Sure only 10 more minutes.”

We are entering a phase of  Aviry not completely understanding that everything we provide for him has LITERALLY been through hard work, sweat and at times many, many tears. At 9 I don’t expect him to understand this but I struggle with this situation.  How do you keep your child balanced in today’s world?  I want Aviry to understand hard work and appreciate what he has,  yet as a child I remember what struggling financially felt like and IT SUCKED. I don’t want Aviry to feel that. I learned very early on the importance of hard work and it has helped me tremendously in adult hood. Aviry is such a smart and amazing kid, I don’t want him to misunderstand the importance of hard work, or hinder him because of what he has or doesn’t have.

Parenting is just this constant journey where each day, week or minute can change. One day I feel like Super mom and the next I’m confused as ever. I’m not worried I know that Aviry will be just fine but any pointer or tips are always appreciated!

How do you teach hard work and instill passion into your children? What tips do you have for me as a mom who tends to over compensate?

Home Decor, motherhood

Decorating Like a Queen but spending like a Pauper.

Decorating a space makes me very happy. I love to decorate and I truly believe that your home should be your zen place.  Whether its decorating a room, the home for the holidays, hosting a party or even decorating a cake. I enjoy pretty things and I enjoy creating pretty spaces.

Although I enjoy a beautiful space. I am not a millionaire… yet.  so I enjoy being creative on a budget, I also love that my home feels like a very peaceful place. I  feel settled and my apartment feels like a home.

So I just wanted to share various projects that I have done around our place that are wallet friendly!

Table Decorations

Food Displays

Plants or flowers

Flowers from My Love always brighten up our home!

Plants are such a great way to brighten up any area, I decorated flower pots for less than  5.00 and now I have lovely plants to bring color to our home.

So if I have any advice for decorating like a queen on a pauper budget they would be.

  • Stick to solid or fairly neutral colors for furniture. That way when you are in the need for a change in your home, you can switch pillow or throws for very little cash.
  • Don’t be afraid to thrift store or the dollar store. Some of my best finds have been at places you wouldn’t expect.

Dollar tree and thrift store combo!
  • Paint and spray paint are game changers! This shelf was once a boring old gray thing, now its GOLD!

  • For those with limited storage space, furniture with storage will be your best friend!

Aviry picked this storage Ottoman from Bargains and buyouts $20 Bucks! I love it!

  • Ask for the input of your family, I think one reason why people enjoy our space is that we decorate as a family. ( I still have the final say) Because if I let the boys decide everything we would have 6 tv’s in our living room. In all seriousness, they gravitate towards items I typically wouldn’t. Yet they always look great in our home and our house is a fusion of all of our ideas.

It was Carlos’s idea to mix and match the bar stools! Love it!

What are some of your decorating tips and tricks? I’m no interior designer but I love feeling at peace in my space and I love looking at pretty things. I can’t wait to look back one day at this post years from now and be so happy to see, that at this place in my life I am happy with our place and I have created a home out of a small space.  : )

Love My Hair a 30 Day Journey

The Journey to a better me, to a calmer and to a happier life has been taking place all year. From finances to beauty I am stepping it up a notch!

Due to these changes I am embarking on a 30 day Love my OWN hair journey.

A huge struggle for me is heat! I love a good blow out! Eliminating heat for a lot of ladies is something that comes easily. Although for me not too much. I struggle with what to do with my natural hair. I tend to get  insecure about the way I look when my hair is in its natural state. I love my hair, yet I haven’t figured out how to wear it when is is in its natural, curly, puffy, frizzy state.  So I am challenging myself to learn more about my hair to appreciate the texture I have and to love it just the way it grows.

Today is day one and honestly today was kind of a fail. I took my sew -in out last night. beautiful Hair from my online store prettyasporcelain.com. I deep conditioned my hair and it feels really really good and It feels really really soft.

Then I thought I could get fancy. I chose to do a twist out on my hair and if it did not dry all the way so it looks really messy. Even messed up my nails twisting my hair.  Luckily I was prepared for it to be messed up. I’m a trial by error hairstylist. I pulled out a cute little head wrap and it saved the day. I like my little high puffball I have going on today.

I  wish my twist out would have came out better here is a photo of day one after salvaging the twist out. I’m ok with it!

IMG_1552

I used Cantu Moisturizing Curl Cream, Coconut oil and Eco Style styling gel for this twist out.

Hopefully day 2  will be  better! We will see!

29 days to go of loving MY HAIR!!

Update!

Day 2 twist out. Turned out a little better but by the end of the day it was just a massive Puff. Luckily my friend who is a natural hair expert gave me a ton of advice and some product-recommendations.

She told me not to pull apart my twist too much so that my hair has room to untwist on its on and she also recommended using wrap lotion to help hold the twist!

That will be something to try for day 4 because I fell asleep before I could twist my hair. So we shall see!

it’s been a struggle! Trying to tame my hair. But I have to say I have gotten a ton of compliments. Which is nice but I’m running out of ideas
