Mommy of the Moment!

When I created this blog, I wanted to showcase just how awesome mom’s are. Whether a single mom, married mom, a young mom, or an old mom we are required to literally kick ass every single day.   Each week I will pick a mom ( Or you will suggest a mom) for me to share with my readers just how amazing she is and just to give credit where credit is due!!

The mother I am writing about this week is my bestie, and sister from another mister the lovely and talented….

Morgan Brown!

20180617_104158

Morgan is the mother to Michal 5, and Donovan 9. Morgan is the true definition of resilience and determination.  After separating from her husband and beginning life on her own, she began her career in corporate America, but for many single moms corporate America isn’t ever really a good fit, due to schedule demands and generally most places of employment not really giving a damn if your kids have dinner and a kiss goodnight before bedtime.

Realizing that she wanted more for herself and her children  she decided to open her own Childcare facility! Guess what?? In just 8 short months from leaving her job the doors to Cozy Home Cares are open!

Cozyhomecares.com ( Click it, its a link, share it!)

I have personally witnessed her plan every aspect of her daycare from start to finish. The children have daily lesson plans, created by herself and her super genius teacher cousin Fred Jenkins.  The children are always engaged and are even learning sign language, yoga and gardening!!

Cozy Home Cares is located in the middle of the Avondale in Cincinnati,Ohio and is truly giving back to the community. She works with parents and truly wants her home to be a second home for their little ones.  It can be hard to trust daycares with some of the horrors you hear on the news. Cozy Home Cares has cameras that the parents are able to access at anytime and she even offers weekend services for parents who just need a break! So if you are someone you know is in need of childcare do not hesitate to call Morgan!!

Way to go Morgan for being an amazing mother, a boss babe, and an all around great friend. Keep kicking ass and taking names just how you have been! Here’s to Cozy Home Cares becoming everything you have ever wanted!!

Home Decor, motherhood

Decorating Like a Queen but spending like a Pauper.

Decorating a space makes me very happy. I love to decorate and I truly believe that your home should be your zen place.  Whether its decorating a room, the home for the holidays, hosting a party or even decorating a cake. I enjoy pretty things and I enjoy creating pretty spaces.

Although I enjoy a beautiful space. I am not a millionaire… yet.  so I enjoy being creative on a budget, I also love that my home feels like a very peaceful place. I  feel settled and my apartment feels like a home.

So I just wanted to share various projects that I have done around our place that are wallet friendly!

Table Decorations

Food Displays

Plants or flowers

Flowers from My Love always brighten up our home!

Plants are such a great way to brighten up any area, I decorated flower pots for less than  5.00 and now I have lovely plants to bring color to our home.

So if I have any advice for decorating like a queen on a pauper budget they would be.

  • Stick to solid or fairly neutral colors for furniture. That way when you are in the need for a change in your home, you can switch pillow or throws for very little cash.
  • Don’t be afraid to thrift store or the dollar store. Some of my best finds have been at places you wouldn’t expect.
IMG_1963 2
Dollar tree and thrift store combo!
  • Paint and spray paint are game changers! This shelf was once a boring old gray thing, now its GOLD!

IMG_1964

  • For those with limited storage space, furniture with storage will be your best friend!

Aviry picked this storage Ottoman from Bargains and buyouts $20 Bucks! I love it!

IMG_1967

  • Ask for the input of your family, I think one reason why people enjoy our space is that we decorate as a family. ( I still have the final say) Because if I let the boys decide everything we would have 6 tv’s in our living room. In all seriousness, they gravitate towards items I typically wouldn’t. Yet they always look great in our home and our house is a fusion of all of our ideas.

It was Carlos’s idea to mix and match the bar stools! Love it!

What are some of your decorating tips and tricks? I’m no interior designer but I love feeling at peace in my space and I love looking at pretty things. I can’t wait to look back one day at this post years from now and be so happy to see, that at this place in my life I am happy with our place and I have created a home out of a small space.  : )

Love My Hair a 30 Day Journey

The Journey to a better me, to a calmer and to a happier life has been taking place all year. From finances to beauty I am stepping it up a notch!

Due to these changes I am embarking on a 30 day Love my OWN hair journey.

A huge struggle for me is heat! I love a good blow out! Eliminating heat for a lot of ladies is something that comes easily. Although for me not too much. I struggle with what to do with my natural hair. I tend to get  insecure about the way I look when my hair is in its natural state. I love my hair, yet I haven’t figured out how to wear it when is is in its natural, curly, puffy, frizzy state.  So I am challenging myself to learn more about my hair to appreciate the texture I have and to love it just the way it grows.

Today is day one and honestly today was kind of a fail. I took my sew -in out last night. beautiful Hair from my online store prettyasporcelain.com. I deep conditioned my hair and it feels really really good and It feels really really soft.

Then I thought I could get fancy. I chose to do a twist out on my hair and if it did not dry all the way so it looks really messy. Even messed up my nails twisting my hair.  Luckily I was prepared for it to be messed up. I’m a trial by error hairstylist. I pulled out a cute little head wrap and it saved the day. I like my little high puffball I have going on today.

I  wish my twist out would have came out better here is a photo of day one after salvaging the twist out. I’m ok with it!

IMG_1552

I used Cantu Moisturizing Curl Cream, Coconut oil and Eco Style styling gel for this twist out.

Hopefully day 2  will be  better! We will see!

29 days to go of loving MY HAIR!!

Update!

Day 2 twist out. Turned out a little better but by the end of the day it was just a massive Puff. Luckily my friend who is a natural hair expert gave me a ton of advice and some product-recommendations.

She told me not to pull apart my twist too much so that my hair has room to untwist on its on and she also recommended using wrap lotion to help hold the twist!

That will be something to try for day 4 because I fell asleep before I could twist my hair. So we shall see!

it’s been a struggle! Trying to tame my hair. But I have to say I have gotten a ton of compliments. Which is nice but I’m running out of ideas

The Skin I’m In. Challenges and Triumps. Skincare Talk.

Well hello my baby mams’s, mamas and friends!!

Today I want to talk about my face.

I have grown up acne, it sucks. About once a month I will get a hideous pimple that seems to leave a mark even if I don’t attempt to annihalate it with an extraction tool. (Which I sometimes do) : (

Hyper-pigmentation is such an a huge problem for me! I have always enjoyed having relatively clear skin, but the last few months have proven challenging. Adult acne is real y’all and its a mutha#$&!

I have been doing some research into adult acne and hyper-pigmentation and here is what I am doing to battle it. I will include some before and after photos and will also be posting progress pictures to my instagram!

Hyper-pigmentation is  is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin.

I hate it! Especially because I have gone my entire life with fairly clear skin. So I have NO PATIENCE FOR PIMPLES!

I have begun compiling what works for me and what can help for anyone who wants to achieve clear skin!

So lets raise our glasses to clear skin…

Maracuja Oil

I have begun my research into this pesky skin problem and my mom actually led me to try Maracuja Oil.  Which you can find on amazon here.  Maracuja is a word that comes from the Amazon region of the world and refers to the passion fruit as it’s typically extracted from either the seeds of the fruit or from passion flowers, an exotic, beautiful flower that offers a host of health benefits.

Natural living.com tells us many benefits of maracuja oil that include it being an

Anti-inflammatory: It helps to reduce inflammation, something that’s considered to be the root of many illnesses and disease.

Emollient: An emollient is considered to be an outstanding moisturizer for the skin.

Antioxidant: Its compounds have the ability to scavenge free radicals which help to prevent the tissues from damage.

Anti-insomnia: It helps to induce more restful sleep.

Anti-itch: It can relieving skin itching.

Anti-stress: It’s been found to have a powerful stress-relieving effect.

Anti-tussive: It’s an effective cough suppressant.

Anti-asthmatic: It can reduce the symptoms of asthma and bronchial spasms.

Anxiolytic: It can help relieve the symptoms of anxiety.

While researching maracura oil I was so surprised to read of the oils  many benefits. I began using maracuja oil after my mom told me how soft her skin felt and how she noticed a decrease in her fine lines and wrinkles.

I have been using Maracuja oil nightly on my skin for about 3 weeks and have noticed some fading of acne scars. Although I may cut down to 3-4 nights a week because my out breaks have remained the same.

Below are some progress photos.

IMG_4148
Week 1 and Week 2

Here is a photo taken today about 3 weeks later. ( Today)IMG_0198I would definitely say the maracuja oil is fading the hyper-pigmentation on my face. Which is great! The one downside for me, although it does not hurt my adult acne, it doesn’t help it either. I wish I saw an improvement in that area.

Vitamin C Serum.

Which I just started using. I haven’t really noticed a difference, I have began applying the Vitamin C oil under my make up. It has only been a week but I will keep you all posted!!

Gentle Exfoliation.

Exfoliating is important because it helps to get rid of dead skin cells and helps promote the growth of new skin cells. Although exfoliating is not needed daily! Too much exfoliation can lead to more breakouts.

Facials and Masks.

I always love a good at home facial. I am obsessed with the Clay Masks by Loreal. They work extremely well and are not too expensive.

IMG_5703
This is a photo from when I first used the mask about a year ago.

Look at it go to town cleaning my pores!! I use a face mask about once or twice a week. I alternate between a variety of mask. But I try to do a clay mask and then a moisturizing mask about 2 days later. I often get comments on how young I look for my age. Which is always so flattering, but I would love to stay pimple free!

I have seen results and next hope to be able to get the pesky outbreaks under control.

Cheers to clear skin and drinking more water!

Update!

Hey everybody!

so I am working on my next blog post I just wanted to share with you all a quick update on what is going on with my skin!

I was on an amazing vacation with my boyfriend and he pretty much taking a break from all technology except for my camera so I have some awesome pictures to share as well as my love my new found love for the ocean

While away on vacation I felt my skin didn’t look really good I have been trying to cover up the Dark spots on my face and although in pictures you can’t tail up close I just didn’t really feel As confident as I said as I should have.

I still was pretty diligent with my skin care routine while on vacation I made sure to use plenty of sunscreen Because I was in Vegas and California where the sun is a lot more intense than where i reside in Ohio.

I kept up my skin care routine.

When I arrived home from Vacation I did a mild face peel which you can find here. I love it! I don’t do very often maybe once a month.

This is where my skin is today.

I feel I am seeing a vast improvement!

I’ll keep you all updated!

Snow Dayz!!!

Snow. Ice. Cold. Yeah it’s winter. Yippee! Born in the Windy City, I have a love / hate relationship with the snow. Maybe Its me, but I feel all Chicagoans have a pretty big ego when it comes to their ability to endure the snow. I constantly brag about memories of myself as a young girl and  the journey to school wearing 3 pairs of pants, 2 sweatshirts and a snow suit that left me with little visibility and no peripheral vision. I loved snowball fights, building snowmen and staring up at the sky as I created snow angels, then after I was just too cold I remember coming into a warm house and the smell of my moms cooking.

As an adult the snow loses it’s appeal pretty quickly.  The second you are forced to wake up when its dark, go into the freezing cold, scrape ice off of your car, only to drive on slippery streets filled with high risk drivers, and the salt that keeps us safe all while destroying the finish on our cars casts a grey shadow over the once pristine white snow. That my fellow Mothers and Baby mamas is why I hate the snow.

I told you it was love hate. The memories of my childhood are the reasons I LOVE a good snow day.  So I have chosen to share some Snow Day Ideas.

My favorite snow day activities for Aviry and I.

Pancake Art! Aviry is a Youtube kid. He doesn’t have a favorite Movie star. He has favorite Youtube stars. We discovered a video of Pancake Art. So of course we decided to try it! Its So simple. You just need pancake mix. (From the box, or scratch if you’e feelin fancy) and food coloring.

You simply divide the mix into bottles or bowls evenly and add food coloring. This part is really fun for the kids because they get to make their own custom colors!

To cook the pancakes we use a griddle. A flat service makes a great canvas.

Allow the Griddle to reach the correct temperature and begin to make artwork! Its quick and fun as well as a great way to get older kids comfortable in the kitchen.

Music and Dancing, If it can’t be warm outside, we can at least listen and dance to music that reminds us of the summer. My go to song right now is Havana by the super talented Camila Cabelo

Another fun activity is of course sledding! Find your nearest hill grab a sled and have a blast!

If you’re little one is anything like Aviry he wouldn’t be able to handle a snow day without some uninterrupted technology time. I know that technology is the way of the future but I often would worry about his obsession with the need for screens. Because of that I am happy to say I have found a solution with Amazon!  Check out Amazon FreeTime Unlimited TrialIts perfect for kids, allows parents to sneak in educational activities and the kids have no idea you were able to squeeze some schoolwork into their snow day!

Now another activity is winding down with a warm drink. It could be hot chocolate, tea, A hot toddy with really nice whiskey… (Ahh). Anywho one of the best ways to commemorate a snow day is through hot chocolate. . After you have snuggled up with your cup of hot cocoa and a good book. Take a moment to take advantage of the chance to take a pause in your busy week and enjoy some time with your loved ones!

What are some of your favorite snow day activities?

I would LOVE Ideas, because the way it’s looking in the midwest. I am going to need more ideas! ; )
